HIRING TECHNOLOGY OFFICER

We’re seeking a new team member to be our technology officer.

The Transitional Justice Working Group (www.tjwg.org) is a human rights NGO in Seoul, South Korea. Our organization works with a number of international and domestic partners, and we are a blend of Korean and international staff members. We strive to learn, adapt, and pass on best practices to others in the areas we work.

Join us and use your skills to support human rights programs focused on the Korean peninsula and globally.

Main duties:

- System and network administration; troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues as they arise
- Research, evaluate, develop, test, and maintain IT and digital security solutions and policies for the organization
- Train staff and interns on digital and organizational security practices
- Support the technology and security of our human rights documentation project, FOOTPRINTS, including its public website driven by Uwazi (https://nkfootprints.info)
- Document key processes

Essential attributes:

- Good at networking (routers, iptables, firewalls, VPNs, etc.)
- English and Korean proficiency
- Undergraduate degree in computer science, information security, or a related field or equivalent work experience
- 1-2 years work experience preferred but not required
- Interest in human rights issues

Desirable attributes (we do not expect candidates to have experience in all of these):

- Digital security, network security; organizational security; privacy and secure communication tools; encryption tools; threat modeling and risk assessment; etc.
- Free and open-source software (FOSS)
- Automation tools and scripting
- Workspace administration; Mobile Device Management
- Wordpress
- Cloud / virtual private servers to host secure business applications
- Python or other coding
- GIS (Geospatial Information System)

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and loves to learn new methodologies and tools. Working under the guidance of the director of technology, he or she will pro-actively research and evaluate possible solutions and implement and maintain the chosen solutions. The technology officer needs to be able to think creatively to solve problems, while paying careful attention to detail, and be a good communicator.

This is a full-time, permanent position with $2500/month salary (payment in Korean won will depend on the exchange rate). Probationary period of two months (fully paid). Work on evenings or weekends sometimes may be required. The organization is unable to sponsor a visa at this time.
