The Campaigner for the Global Air Pollution project is expected to take significant responsibility in the development and execution of global/regional campaign and research projects to achieve Greenpeace's mission to accelerate the global phaseout of fossil fuels by exposing the impact of air pollution and climate change on the welfare of current and future generations.
The post holder is an experienced campaigner, project leader, and coordinator. Also, a good communicator to bridge multiple local offices in the Greenpeace community, to execute global/regional projects.
The post holder will work in the Global Air Pollution Unit of Greenpeace East Asia, composed of staff with a background in science, data analytics, campaign, communications, and engagement who are based in diverse locations and time zones across Asia and Europe. This person has to work flexibly to cover these multiple time zones while being responsive to urgent requests occasionally.
The backbone of the team’s work is modelling and scientific analysis of air pollution and health impact data. The post holder should be comfortable working with numeric data and be able to critically evaluate scientific observations; but specialized knowledge of the scientific disciplines involved is not required. We are seeking someone who is capable of accurately translating between experts and laypeople and thereby functions as a bridge between science and a general audience. Advanced writing skills in English are a benefit/required.
Strategic and creative thinking is required to plan and execute impactful and effectful campaign projects.
Skill and Expertise Required
Proven track records or familiarity in at least one of the following:
- At least one core environmental issues that the Global air pollution project is campaigning for: air pollution modeling and analysis, climate & energy, etc; or
- Familiarity in campaigning and/or non-profit operation, project management, etc; or
- Other proven professional experiences from consulting, data science, research, public policy, international relations, journalism, etc
- Familiarity in the social, political, and cultural context of one of the geographical jurisdictions; Southeast Asia, South Asia, Middle East, and North Africa, South Africa
Work Environment
- The position is EA-jurisdiction based or remotely based within or outside East Asia.
- Preferably located in South Korea,Taiwan, or another jurisdiction in East Asia.
- Flexible for working time to cover the multiple time zones, to promptly respond to the requests and inquiries of the multiple Greenpeace offices.
- The position may be required to work under pressure and in physically or mentally challenging situations.
- Be on-call after hours and on weekends as requested.
- Sometimes need to travel to other Greenpeace offices, campaign locations or locations where environmental problems require the presence of Greenpeace representatives.
